"The triumph of Harlequin", fan in the V&A Museum, London, UK, as shown in A.Taylor/E. Hart's book: "Fans". Of Italian origin, ca. 1750, painted after a fan design by the Roman painter Felicita Tibaldi Subleyras (Source: Biblio No 2). The fan is of excellent quality (mother of pearl sticks), and it can be assumed that it was a souvenir fan from the Venetan carnival. The harlequins are typically dressed, with a full black face mask, the ladies are dressed in harlequin dresses, without masks. |
