The Universidad
Católica del Norte hosted the very first LEKTOR
workshop on 26/27 November 2007. On the campus of the University
in Coquimbo (near La Serena), academics, entrepreneurs and students
participated actively in the event. The workshop started with a
keynote speech by the Vice-Rector of the University, Luis
Moncayo Martínez, who underlined the importance
of linkage between research and industry: "Research needs
justification, and the best justification is valorization: the transformation
of knowledge generated by R&D for the economic and social development".

In Santiago, the DUOC Institute
of the Universidad Católica was the host of the LEKTOR workshop,
held on 28/29 November 2007. The Director, Andrés
Pumarino, gave an overview of the SME landscape in Chile
and emphasised the importance of new technologies for SMEs: "If
I as an entrepreneur take a conservative line (i.e. not using the
Internet or other ICT tools), the young will jump on the opportunities,
and I will not be able to compete".
The event was honoured by the presence of H.E. Dr. Wolfgang
Angerholzer, Ambassador of Austria in Chile, and Fernando
Morales Barria, Director-Asesor in the DG for International
Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Chile.
