Things
are moving! Construction work to enlarge the facilities started
at the beginning of 2007, thanks to all that supported the hospital
so far. Here an image of the construction site:

Letter of the
Head of the Hospital to Eleonora Texeira-Rossoll (Spring 2006):
Dear Eleonora,
tomorrow Sergey is going to send you a report of the hospital’s
development containing figures.
Now some information of the results of the hospital’s work in 2005:
1. The construction of the x-ray office has been finished. The city
administration gave 400 000 hrivnas.
The roof of the building was covered with the metal tile bought for your
money.
2. The maintenance of EEG (its price is 29 940 hrivnas, the money received
from you).
The diagnostics of some diseases is possible due to this device being a very
important means of examination.
The next week the Mayor of Chernivtsi and the Head of the Medicine department
of the City administration
are going to visit the EEG office.
We would like to enlist the services of mass media for showing the
possibilities
of diagnostics to the city-dwellers and to thank you, Dear Eleonora, Leopold
and everybody who helped
us get this indispensable device.
3. The gastro fibroscopus containing video and computer, which you sent us,
has been also maintained in a new office. The surgeon responsible for it
took a 7-months probation period, got a certificate and in February he
started endoscopic examinations.
By present 54 children have been examined.
4. Medicines which we bought for your money saved and continue saving lives
of many children.
In our region only our hospital has steady mortality indexes. In other
hospitals and in the whole region
the level of children’s mortality for the year 2005 rose considerably.
This fact causes trouble in the Ministry for Health Service, and in March we
are waiting for experts from Kiev.
We want to emphasize that your commitment to this medication sphere is very
valuable. [...]

Benefiz-Konzert
/
Concert invitation for the benefit
of the children's hospital

On 24 March 2006, a Concert for the
benefit of the children's hospital was held in Brussels.
Two young artists, Katarzyna Borek, piano and Laurent Tardet, violin,
played works by Mozart, Schubert, Kreisler and others. For details,
consult the invitation and the
programme.
All donations were used directly for the children's hospital. For newest
medical achievements, see the report just below.
Extracts
of the letter from the medical director of the hospital, Prof. Storozhuk,
November 2005:
The last humanitarian
load has a great significance for the patients of our hospital. The obtained
mattresses are used in all the departments. Comfortable functional beds are
placed in the neurogical and surgical departments. Due to your help all the
departments have modern washing
machines. So the urgent problem of washing in the operation
block, reanimation department and neurology departments where badly ill
children are being treated has been solved.
At present all the departments of the hospital have computers received from you. And
it helps to process medical data, to carry out statistical analysis and to
prepare medical documentation. The next step is Internet.
The surgical materials and instruments were also of great importance. We
managed to learn new methods of plastic surgery and began operating newborns
with complex medical pathology. Fewer children are sent to be operated in Kiev, because we are
able to operate them here.
I can’t help mentioning the Karl Storz Bronchoscope fur Kinder. This
extraordinarily important device saved
25 children in 2004. For the money you donated we bought antibiotics
and leikeran indispensable for children whose parents have no money to buy
expensive medicines.
[...]
Now we really hope that Herman von Fisher’s idea concerning the hospital modernization will come
into life. There will be three stages of reconstruction to be finished by
2008 – the year of 600th
anniversary of the city of Chernivtsi,
160th anniversary since
the beginning of reign of Austro-Hungarian Empire by Franz Josef and the 100th anniversary of the hospital. I and my
assistants have consultations with the group of architects who are working at
the project of the hospital’s reconstruction. The city administration
gave 500 000 hrivnas for the project and the beginning of works.
And I want to emphasize that it was you, as well as Leo, Rudolf and Nora who
supported the idea of the reconstruction by means of your help. 5 years ago
our hospital was under the threat of being closed as one without any
prospects. Now we have future!
Best wishes and fondest regards.
Sergey Storozhuk.

The new
anaesthesia equipment/Neues Narkosegerät speziell für Kinder
Thanks to your
donations, it was possible to buy new anaesthesia equipment, specially for
children (Fa. Draeger, value approx. 30.000 EURO). This purchase was
necessary as the very old equipment was noxious to the infantile organism.
The new one is already been used, and the doctors are very enthusiastic:
difficult operations become easier, the children recover much quicker. See
below the anaesthetist with the new equipment.
Dank Ihrer Spenden

Letter from
Eleonora Teixeira-Rossoll to all friends and supporters of the children
hospital, October 2004:
Dear friends and donors
of Czernowitz Children's Hospital,
first of all I would like to thank you for your tremendous help and all your
efforts during this year to help sick children in the Ukraine. As
mentioned below 'our' children's hospital is now in much better shape than
some years ago; many children's lives were saved thanks to the medicines
(antibiotics) and medical equipment bought with your financial contributions.
The entire premises have been equipped with hospital beds. Several parts of
the hospital's roof have been replaced. A complete dental cabinet, including
several chairs and various dental instruments, a bronchoscope, surgical
instruments, clothes and toys were sent to the Ukraine
via 2 big trucks in September and last month a delegation of our volunteers
from Belgium and Austria
paid a visit to the hospital to see the progress achieved.
The best news comes now:
the Ukrainian state and the city of Czernowitz
have agreed to pay for a general renovation of the hospital's premises which
should be starting very soon. All this progress was achieved with your help
and we thank you from the bottom of our heart for all your contributions!
As you will read below we decided once again to join all our efforts to
continue helping and would be very grateful for your continuing support.
Please, remember: every cent helps and 100% of the money from your donation
benefits the children.
Many, many thanks for all your help and support,
Eleonora

Subject: greetings from Chernivtsi
Dear Eleonora,
We are very grateful for the gifts, they
are very dear to us.
We are very glad that your delegation from Austria
and Belgium
spent
several days in Chernivtsi in a very useful and fruitful way. We did our best
to make their stay
as comfortable as possible. Their arrival was especially important this
time, because we had some essential talks concerning our relations and
interactions. We believe our cooperation will reach a new stage,
because the level of trust and responsibility has increased.
I am not going to assess your help as it is unvaluable, but I would
like to dwell upon two things. The bronchoscopus STORZ has already
saved more than ten children and helped to recover to more than 25
kids. In general 150 endoscopies with the help of this bronchoscopus
have been carried out during 2004. The tubes for the bronchoscopus
which we have just received from your charity will enable to broaden the
possibilities of diagnostics and treatment of newborns and babies.
The second important event also took place due to your assistance and
attention to our hospital. At the beginning of September the city
administration decided to reconstruct and develop Fischerkinderspital.
200 000 hryvnas have been given for documents and project preparation.
We hope that in 2008 - the year of the hospital's centenary - we
together with you will participate in the ceremony of the
reconstructed hospital opening as well as the 5-storied building of
the surgical department.
With warmest regards and gratitude
Sergey Storozhuk.
