Aid Projects

In 1998, an aid project for the "Children' Hospital No. 1" in Czernowitz was founded (see "Historical Glimpse) as a result of a Viennese group visiting the city of Czernowitz and realizing how much of the beauty of this old building had faded over the years, almost to the point of being threatened of closure. First a small car left Vienna, every year increasing in size and importance. Up until 2004, more than 2 Million € worth of financial and material aid has been collected, more than 10,000 man hours of voluntary work ensured effective transports and administration. Thus, all gifts could be used directly for the hospital and the children.
The hospital uses all means, the simplest if necessary. When the budget is short, the bread to accompany the soup for lunch and dinner comes from the children's relatives; the wall decoration is the creative product of the children and the nurses. In 2002, the hospital was awarded the official status of University hospital with 2 professorial chairs. This was made possible by persistent efforts of the hospital management and staff, as well as the improved infrastructure due to donations. This increases the prestige of the institution and thus, the chances to receive support locally from the government. And, consequently, improvements in instruments and technical equipment that still appear slightly desolate.
The Statistical overview (new since 2004) allows an insight into the hospital's activities.
